Shane Mosley made a winning return to the ring
on Saturday night by claiming a sixth round stoppage victory over
Ricardo Mayorga.
The American, 43, (48-9-1, 40 KOs) floored Mayorga with a
body shot late in the sixth round after largely controlling an
uneventful rematch between the veteran fighters at the historic Forum
in Inglewood, California.
Mayorga, 41, (31-9-1) was in
unimpressive shape and did little to threaten Mosley, the former
three-division champion who had won just one of his previous six fights
Nearly seven years ago, Mosley stopped Nicaraguan fighter with one second left in the 12th round of their first meeting.
Mosley
hadn't fought since November 2013 when he lost to Australian Anthony
Mundine, while it was Mayorga first outing since his win over Mexican
Andrik Saralegui last December.
Mosley promoted the pay-per-view
bout himself, but curiously scheduled it on the same night as Leo Santa
Cruz's thrilling featherweight victory over Abner Mares just 10 miles
away at the Staples Center.
